Accreditation

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance (LWHA) participated in Accreditation Canada’s survey process November 22-25, 2021. LWHA is proud to announce that the hospital has been awarded “Accredited with Exemplary Standing” by Accreditation Canada. All staff, physicians, volunteers, patient partners and our Board of Directors are commended for their hard work and dedication to safe, quality care for our patients and community.

Quality Improvement

The Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA, 2010) ensures hospitals strengthen their accountability to deliver high quality health care through an annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP). Quality Improvement is a systematic approach to making changes that lead to better patient outcomes, enhanced experience for patients and providers, and reduced costs.

Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance is on a continuous journey of Quality Improvement in order to provide the highest quality care for our patients and their families.

The Quality Improvement Plan is our guide to achieving outcomes in priority initiatives as outlined through Strategic Priorities, Accreditation Canada Standards, Service Accountability Agreements, Staff and Patient participation and the needs of our community. Temporary Emergency Department Closure

Wingham and District Hospital

As a result of a staffing shortage, the Wingham and District Hospital Emergency Department will be temporarily closed this weekend as follows:

  • Friday June 9th from 5 pm until 7 am the following morning
  • Saturday June 10th from 5 pm until 7 am the following morning
  • Sunday June 11th from 5 pm until 7am on Monday June 12th.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Emergency Medical Services (EMS – Ambulances) will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding hospitals to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need.

For non-urgent health care call Health Connect Ontario at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

The following is a list of closest hospitals (they may also be experiencing temporary closures due to staffing shortages so it is advised that you confirm that they are open before heading there):

  • Listowel
  • Clinton
  • Goderich
  • Palmerston
  • Seaforth
  • Kincardine
  • Walkerton

This is a temporary measure and our staff, board, physicians and leadership regret that we have to take this step.
