Our Name Has Changed - May 2023

After successfully merging North Perth and North Huron Family Health Teams, we are excited to announce our new name: Listowel-Wingham and Area Family Health Team (LWA FHT).

We are still located at 185 Inkerman Street East, Listowel (North Perth site); and 271 Frances Street, Wingham (North Huron site).

Our new brand highlights our role as a compassionate, patient-centred rural team of health professionals in our Maitland River region. Our essential vision and commitment remains, a healthy, empowered rural community.

Who We Are

Family Health Teams are health care organizations that include a team of family physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, dietitians, and other professionals who work together to provide health care for their community.

Family Health Teams ensure that people receive the care they need in their communities, as each team is set-up based on local health and community needs. They focus on chronic disease management, disease prevention and health promotion, and work with other health care organizations.  For more information visit the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care website.

Temporary Emergency Department Closure

Wingham and District Hospital

As a result of a staffing shortage, the Wingham and District Hospital Emergency Department will be temporarily closed this weekend as follows:

  • Friday June 9th from 5 pm until 7 am the following morning
  • Saturday June 10th from 5 pm until 7 am the following morning
  • Sunday June 11th from 5 pm until 7am on Monday June 12th.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Emergency Medical Services (EMS – Ambulances) will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding hospitals to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need.

For non-urgent health care call Health Connect Ontario at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

The following is a list of closest hospitals (they may also be experiencing temporary closures due to staffing shortages so it is advised that you confirm that they are open before heading there):

  • Listowel
  • Clinton
  • Goderich
  • Palmerston
  • Seaforth
  • Kincardine
  • Walkerton

This is a temporary measure and our staff, board, physicians and leadership regret that we have to take this step.
