LWHA Launches Community Engagement Sessions to Shape Local Hospital Care

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance (LWHA) is inviting community members to participate in a series of upcoming engagement sessions focused on the future of local hospital care. The sessions will be held on August 21, 22, and 23 at both the Listowel and Wingham hospital sites, with three sessions hosted at each location.

These interactive conversations are part of LWHA’s broader commitment to inclusive, community-driven planning. As the hospital system prepares to look more broadly at how it delivers care into the future, community input will serve as a cornerstone of this work. The insights gathered through these sessions will help guide long-term planning, including the exploration of new models, partnerships, and approaches to care that reflect the evolving needs and values of the people we serve. Each session offers a space for participants to learn about the current state of hospital services and contribute to future directions. Attendance is limited to 20 participants per session to ensure meaningful dialogue.

While we are inviting big ideas and open conversation, it is important to acknowledge that our planning must also consider broader system realities, such as provincial policy, funding frameworks, and resource availability. We are committed to being transparent about where we have flexibility and where we do not, and to working collaboratively within those parameters.

“These sessions are about listening deeply to our community,” said Esther Millar, President and CEO of LWHA. “We know the best decisions come from collaboration. We want to hear from everyone, patients, staff, families, and neighbours, so that our hospitals continue to reflect the needs, values, and priorities of the people we serve.”

Sessions will take place as follows:

  • Thursday, August 21: Two sessions at the Listowel Hospital site
  • Friday, August 22: Two sessions at the Wingham Hospital site
  • Saturday, August 23: One session at each site

In addition to attending a session, community members are encouraged to complete a short online survey to share their perspectives.

“This is an important time for our hospitals,” said Stacey Ash, Chair of the LWHA Board of Directors. “We’re facing both challenges and exciting opportunities, and it’s essential that community voices are part of the planning process from the very beginning.”

Registration and the survey are now open.

LWHA looks forward to welcoming a wide range of perspectives and working together with the community to plan for a vibrant and responsive future in health care.
