June - Stroke Month

With June being Stroke Month Perth County paramedics are reminding the public to not transport themselves to their local hospitals when they are suffering Stroke like symptoms as they may unknowingly cause themselves delays in receiving brain saving treatment and possibly miss the opportunity to reverse a stroke’s devastating injury.
Stroke hospitals have been designated to provide specialized care to reverse stroke symptoms and hopefully reduce the damage to the brain.
“The problem with showing up at a hospital that doesn’t provide this care is that the specialized treatment can only be provided in a tightly controlled time frame. If a person misses the time window for treatment their stroke symptoms cannot be reversed” Stated Deputy Eggleton.
If you experience any of these signs, call 9-1-1. Do not drive to the hospital. Paramedics will get you to the best hospital for stroke care.
